I got a copy of version 5.0 with my drawing tablet.
It’s a really useful program, whether you’re an artist or a photographer. To be honest, I don’t think there’s very much missing in comparison to Photoshop CS3, or any of the other ‘pro’ versions.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but you soon get the hang of it. An instruction book would probably be helpful =)

Photoshop is a very popular imaging application while Photoshop elements is a scaled down version of Photoshop

Photoshop Elements no longer has upgrade pricing… and upgrading to the newest version was never free. You have to buy the newest version if you want it….but there are $20 (and sometimes larger) rebates. Staples periodically has it on sale, too.

Photoshop Elements is a significantly scaled down version of the full blown version of Photoshop.You can do some of the same things in Elements as you can in Photoshop, but you have much more flexibility in Photoshop. Simply put, Photoshop is the pro version of the software and Elements is more geared toward hobbyists.

The cost of the two software packages reflect these differences. But, the good news is that, as a student, you can buy Photoshop at a sizable discount. I believe the Student/Teacher version of Photoshop is about 20% of the cost of the regular version. So, if you’re thinking of buying Photoshop, doing it when you’re a student is definitely the way to go.

woah, this looks so much easier then my original photoshop cs5 but I think photoshop cs5 extended is better than Elements =\
